You Are Incomparable

Since you are like no other
being ever created since
the beginning of time,
you are incomparable.

- Brenda Ueland

The sun is shining today filling the world with light and a false sense of warmth. I gaze out the window as I am writing this to you watching the bird's feeding from the bird feeders scattered throughout the garden. I watch them flit from feeder to feeder attempting to create a space by startling the birds to take flight. They quickly swoop into the now empty space and begin to collect the sweet seeds eagerly.

The birds seem to fall for the same trick repeatedly. They take flight in alarm, landing in the nearby tree and shrubs. Do they know that they have been tricked away from the feeder or are they just relieved that there was no eminent danger?

"Baby, it's cold outside....", a song by Ella Fitzgerald repeats again and again in my mind as I see the frost sparkling on the tops of fence rails, leaves of the evergreens and stone path in the garden. It's a frosty 14 degrees this morning and a good day to stay inside with a hot cup of tea and a warm laptop on my knees. It's a good day to write to you.

Do you ever stop to think about how extraordinary you are? A living and breathing miracle of life. You are the only one on the planet just like you. There are no others, not even close. No wonder we feel lonely at times, even when we are surrounded by family and friends. We are the only one of our kind. We are completely unique, all the way to our fingerprints.

This must be why it is so exciting to meet a kindred spirit. When we meet someone whom we understand and feel a kinship toward. The blogging community gives us this chance to meet kindred spirits through our blogs where we express our uniqueness through images, creativity and the written word. We invite one another to connect by leaving comments providing the thread that connects us to one another.

You are as unique as a single snowflake and perfect in your creation. It fills me with a sense of awe when I think of all of the people walking on this earth and that each one is unique, perfect and extraordinary in their creation. How is this possible? Isn't it mindboggling, and just plainly inconceivable to imagine that each person is unique?

Our common ground is our uniqueness and our desire to connect to one another.

May you be filled with a sense of glory, and delight as you ponder your amazing self today and give thanks for the tapestry each soul brings to the joy of living.

Thank you for your comments regarding this post, the birds continue to visit the feeders - I think they are trying to bulk up for the upcoming Winter months. It's one of my favorite parts of cold weather - feeding the many birds that visit our feeders. xo Julie

Hey girl! Lovely post, lovely thoughts. It really is amazing how the internet has allowed us to reach out over distances and connect with people. I suppose one could argue that it's not "real" face to face interaction, but in the days of business, work, long hours, and loneliness, this type of interaction can be a godsend. I know we willm ett one day, maybe when Kansas gets hot and you and the family are ready for a cool, northern break. Or maybe just you. And we'll visit like long-lost college buddies, or high school friends, laughing and staying up late at night. Merry Christmas!

Your entry was so beautifully written. It was just what I needed, to read. I had a nasty encounter with a rascist friend who sent me abusive emails today. Thanks for restoring my faith in the multitudes of kind, decent people out there in the world.
