Copper Metalwork Earrings

i am a continuance
of a blue sky
i am the throat
of the scandia mountains
a night wind woman
who burns
with every breath
she takes

Other than loving the warmth color of copper and the way it compliments silver components I find the following fascinating...

Copper ions are soluble in water, where they function at low concentration as bacteriostatic substances and fungicides. For this reason, copper metal can be used as an anti-germ surface that can add to the anti-bacterial and antimicrobial features of buildings such as hospitals.

Copper is germicidal, via the oligodynamic effect. For example, brass doorknobs disinfect themselves of many bacteria within a period of eight hours.   Antimicrobial properties of copper are effective against MRSA, Escherichia coli and other pathogens.  In colder temperature, longer time is required to kill bacteria.

Well there you go, my latent science geek that lives deep within exposed for all to see...  Don't you agree that copper is not only beautiful when used in jewelry but also a very useful metal in general?  It's why I like to use it whenever possible in my work.

In alchemy the symbol for copper, perhaps a stylized mirror, was also the symbol for the goddess and planet Venus.  It is also the symbol for woman or the feminine.

Apparently, I am not the only woman to be drawn to copper.  Copper was associated with the goddess Aphrodite/Venus in mythology and alchemy, owing to its lustrous beauty, and its ancient use in producing mirrors.
Botanicals also make into my work whenever possible here in the form of two hammered and shaped copper leaves paired with one of my favorite gemstones labradorite.  Labradorite flashes blue, green, and gray in the sunlight but appears lavender in the shade.
Two long copper wedges hammered and paired with vintage jet glass buttons this time.  I am considering adding a leaf impression to them.

Leave me a comment to let me know which earrings are your favorite - what do you think?

DO I have to pick? I like the ones with the glass bead sandwiched between the copper. The facts about copper are very cool, BTW.
