Another custom necklace requested for the celebration of an upcoming Graduation made with large teardrop blue opals, silver, natural pearl and leather. This necklace is a Prairie Thistle original and my favorite type of necklace to design.
Opals were requested in honor of the graduates birthstone, her birthday is in October. She also requested that the opals not be pink. She wanted something unique - so the search began for blue or green opals. When I saw these opals after months of searching for just the right color, shape and size - I knew they would be perfect! The luscious blue opals have this translucent quality that is amazing - they seem to glow from within.
After discussing design elements with her mother, I think these gemstones are so much like her descriptions of her daughter who has an inner light and sweet soul.
I love the simple design that let's the opals take center stage and be the true focal element of the necklace. I also like the clean lines that the brown leather cords provide, that also give the necklace a modern look and feel. This is my favorite piece of jewelry that I have designed this year.
