His Eye Is On the Sparrow - Wirework Bird's Nest Pendant

Birds instinctively know how to build nests and all the birds of each species build the exact same kind of nest. The bird is unaware of the instinct that forms the specific nest.  Isn't that interesting and magical?

This necklace makes a simple statement with a wirework nest with two turquoise eggs nestled inside with a silver bird charm, natural pearl drop and Czech glass leaf.  All combining so beautifully together.

While I was putting this necklace together I contemplated the mother bird that lives within our hearts providing love, safety, growth, healing, security, nurturing, protection, compassion, and self-sacrifice to and in care of our families.  We seem to be drawn to images of nests filled with tiny eggs that seem to hold promise and hope.

In dreams the Sparrows seem to whisper messages of faith, humility and simplicity in both our dream and lucid states. Dream sparrows encourage us to seek pleasure in the simple things of life.  The sparrow know that simple thoughts and needs lead to simple joys.

I sing because I’m happy,
I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

- hymn written by Civilla Durfee Martin, 1905

Even in nature the love in a mother's heart is sublime.  This expression has stayed with me for years.  It was a quote under a lithograph in a vintage book of a mother sheep desperately trying to save her lamb that had fallen into a ravine.  I have never forgotten that image and quote, it struck a cord with me.  We instinctively watch over our children, nurturing them to adulthood, but our eyes remain on our little sparrows for eternity.
My unending fascination with birds, nests and tiny eggs will never end and birds will continue to  appear in my art again and again.  I will feed the birds every Winter and fill birdbaths with fresh water.  In exchange they will sing to me sweetly from the trees, eat bugs that plague my garden, and delight me with their little fledglings each Spring.

Thoughts of motherhood seems to be a running theme at this time of year when we send our children back to school with disbelief in our hearts that the Summer flew by so quickly and that our children seem to be growing up much too quickly. - xoxo Julie

Hey Julie- great necklace!! I lvoe the post- it's so true about the nests and birds. They draw us for reasons unknown, but I think you're right. It reminds us of home and our children. xoxo

Julie, your little birdie touched my heart. I have always had a thing for the little sparrows that chatter outside my bedroom window. Their such busy bodies, they make me think of my twin sister calling to me come on Marcy let's go, we've got things to do. Now I will think of you too. You know that bird feeder I bought, "The Squirrel Baffler" the sparrows are the only ones smart and tenacious enough to get right in there and eat.
I LOVE UM!
